I designed, printed and assembled my invitation suite all by myself (with some help from my mom and then hubby to be). I bought my envelopes and navy cardstock at Paper Source on the Upper East Side, last fall, when I last visited New York City. My mom and I cut all the cardstocks and Michael glued the invitations.
The reason I decided to DIY my invitation is quite straightforward, I needed to make two different versions of my invitations. My wedding was bilingual, so were my invitations. I think translating all my invitation suite documents and making sure the formatting was perfect for both the English and French invitations was the most time consuming part of the process!
I also had a very specific idea in mind and designing it myself allowed me to see my vision come to life. I had everything printed at Staples, and it worked just fine. I would most definitively had had a better quality product if I had the invitations printed professionally, but I think they still came out great!
I designed all my paper goods in Photoshop. In design may be better suited for this type of project, but at the time, I was more comfortable tackily the project using Photoshop.
I chose the Empress of Ireland stamps because they are very meaningful for me and my family and the colour and nautical feel of the stamps went perfectly with my theme.
Overall I think it was a success, almost everyone responded, and only one invitation got lost in the mail!
