Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, and Something Blue

I first learned about the something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue tradition when I worked weddings in England. I thought it was a wonderful tradition and decided that I would try having all elements included in my wedding. For me, it was important to wear all four elements as opposed to only including them in the day.
Last Christmas, my mom made it easier for me to find my something old. She truly surprised me when she gave me the pearl necklace my great grandfather gave my grandmother on her wedding day. I have never met my grandmother, and it was amazing to be able to have this heirloom with me on my big day.

My something new was my wedding dress, designed by Canadian Lis Simon.

My something borrowed were my grandmother pearl earrings that I borrowed from my mom.

Finally, my something blue was my shoes, Nine West hills.

All these details came together in a unified look. Wearing my grandmother’s pearls on my wedding day, almost 40 years after her death meant the world to me and my mom. In the top right photo below is my mom is helping me with my grandmother’s pearl earrings.
