After reading Make it Happen by Lara Casey in the fall, I wanted more of my 2018 goals. I wanted to explore what a life lived on purpose would look like and if I could define what these goals could look like for me. I loved the book and I recommend it to anyone. Lara’s story is really inspirational. Lara is the creator and editor of the Southern Wedding Magazine and her journey is nothing short of extraordinary. Although the book has a large focus on God and faith, it is easy to translate the concepts to any belief system.
Lara is also the creator of the Power Sheet which are meant to help you refine and track your goals to live on purpose. However, the yearly planner has sold out for this year, so I used the book and Lara’s website as a guide to refine my goals for the new year. Last year was great! We rebranded, changed our company name to The Barnett Company to include my husband Michael in the business and to create the stepping stone of the amazing dreams we have for our business. This was definitely a highlight of 2017.
But as we sat down in an amazing Italian restaurant in Westboro two days ago, we talked and reflected back to our 2017 year. Our highlight for the year were the moments we spent together traveling to Washington and the time we spent with family over the holidays. Our best moments were the ones spent with the people we love and being present. My favorite moments in the business were working with couples at their engagement session and wedding, hanging out with them at the reveal or at their consultation, and thinking about them when creating and amazing experience and surprises for them. Another highlight of 2017 is the amazing Ottawa community and the monthly and often more frequent hang out with my friendors, meeting for brunch and having the most interesting four hours conversation, or meeting as a group to raise $1,000 for a local charity.
With that in mind, what is clearly the most important thing for us is PEOPLE!! By being SO busy last year, we didn’t spend as much time as we would have liked with some of our friends and family. So our word for 2018 is PRESENT!!
What are your goals for 2018?
