Kathryn and Stephen Next Wedding in Stittsville

Kathryn and Stephen got married at Next in Stittsville on Canada day. I don’t know if you remember Canada day, but chances are you do, as it was Canada 150 celebrations. It rained SO much all day, and although there were pockets of sun, we they were during the ceremony and reception and were not able to go take photos outside. Nevertheless, Next is a gorgeous venue with many good indoor spots for portraits so we were able to capture their love during their first look and even made the most of their “sunset” portrait time to photograph their love in the pretty indoor spots that were filled with guests before the ceremony.

I would say that one of my favourite spot was the gorgeous spiral staircase underneath the grand chandelier and floor to ceiling bay window. I loved all the natural light that came in even if it was raining outside. I also love how the ceremony, reception and cocktail areas are separate allowing quiet space for the first look and giving me an opportunity to photograph the reception detail during the cocktail hour. I always recommend to my couples to have the cocktail hour in a different area and to not give guest access to the reception venue during that time allowing me to photograph every detail untouched.

I also loved the cultural and sentimental details that were included throughout their day. I love how the guys wore kits as homage of his heritage. The bride also had a six pence in the hand bag in a thistle embroidered bag. The evening bag itself was borrowed from the bride’s mother and contained other heirlooms that had been past from previous generations like a handkerchief and rings. So, she had something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue and a six pence in her shoe (or evening bag). I love this saying and the tradition and significance of all the heirlooms included in it.
