Today is our 11th dating anniversary! Now that we are married, we are not doing anything crazy since we will celebrate our first wedding anniversary in May instead!
But two years ago today, on December 16, 2013, our ninth anniversary, Michael proposed to me at the end of a nice day in the snow and by the fire.
So here is our Proposal Story!
On a lovely Monday of December, where the temperature was a crisp -30C and a couple of feet of fresh snow had fallen over the weekend, we left for Montebello to go on a Snowmobile adventure.
Michael had been talking about going snowmobiling for about six years, and since there was snow on our anniversary, it seemed like a fun activity to do. However, since it had snowed a lot that December, we had snow up to our knees, and apparently it wasn’t the best conditions to snowmobile. Five minutes after we left, I was already terrorized and wished it was over already. After falling twice, the instructor snowmobile breaking down four times, and three hours of snowmobile instead of two, the ride was over. I was frozen and vowed to never snowmobile again, and Michael said he may try again alone if it was much warmer and there was an actual track! (Apparently a track is key!)
After the ride, we went to the Chateau Montebello to thaw and eat some warm soup. Following lunch, we spent the afternoon in the lovely lobby by the fire. We played cribbage and had tea.
We left in the afternoon and drove back to Ottawa to go for dinner at a 19th Century restaurant. After desert, Michael proposed. Although the restaurant was packed and there was one very noisy waiter, the proposal was perfectly intimate. I obviously said yes!
