I first met Kayla and Matt almost four years ago. At the time, they were planning an August 2020 wedding. They had to reschedule a few times, first due to the pandemic, and then because they were expecting twins, but they finally were able to have their dream wedding at Lago in Ottawa last weekend.

Although they already had a small ceremony to make it legal during the lockdown before the birth of their babies, you absolutely could not tell as everyone was so happy to be there to finally be able to celebrate with them. Throughout their day, one thing that was very apparent was how great friends and people they are. They both are amazing people and amazing parents.

The forecast for their wedding day was really bad, rain and storms were expected all day. But the rain was holding off. Luckily they wanted to do a first look and take all the formal photos before the ceremony. We kept looking at the radar telling us we had 10 more minutes before the rain, but it wasn’t coming. As soon as I pressed the shutter on the last formal photograph, the storm began. But gratefully we were able to take all their amazing portraits outdoors around Dow’s Lake.

Lago is a great Ottawa wedding venue right on Dow’s Lake. The ceremony took place in the downstairs room which is surrounded by windows at the peak of the storm. But with all the lights above the aisle and the special vows exchanged, all eyes were on Kayla and Matt.

They had their first dance right before dinner. It is one of the thing we always recommend to our couples. But they did something really fun and unique. Halfway through their first dance, they invited all other couples to join them on the dance floor. They also had a parent dance after dinner and they did the same, inviting all children and parents present on the dance floor. They were both very special moments and I loved seeing how much these special dances meant to their guests.
